US Marine cleared!  My blog article bombs. Response to famous hacker gone straight.

Follow-up on “US Marine needs our support now.”
In my blog article published 12/20/04,”US Marine needs our support now,” I told you about a young Marine who had been videotaped (by an embedded reporter) shooting an insurgent at close range. As a result of the videotape, the young Marine – who was wounded in action just a few days earlier and voluntarily chose to remain with his combat unit – was brought up on charges pending a formal investigation of the shooting.

I called upon our President to step up and pardon the Marine.
I personally called upon President Bush to seize the opportunity to send a message to our enemies and the world by stepping up and pardoning the young Marine. I thought it would be good for the country for him to use his power for something other than keeping gays from getting married (this is a state, not federal, issue in my opinion), or obstructing the miracles promised by stem cell research.

Earlier this month the Marine was cleared of any wrong doing.
I am now very happy to tell you that earlier this month, the Marine Corps announced that close examination of enhanced video footage showed that the young Marine was acting in accordance with the rules of engagement, and would not be brought up on charges.

The decision to clear the Marine took way too long.
I believe that this was certainly the right decision. However, it never should have taken this long. Dragging it out was not only devastating for the young Marine, but also demoralizing for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The President should have stepped up and immediately pardoned the young Marine.

My blog article before this one bombed!
I suppose it was bound to happen. I wrote a blog article that got the attention of almost no one. The article dealt with the tribulations of shyness and public speaking. There’s a lesson here I think. That lesson is that we don’t like to read about anything we find unpleasant.
